Blepharoplasty

Our eyes are the organs that most reflect our emotional state. This condition becomes more evident as we get older and due to the changes that occur around the eyes due to exposure to external factors. Excess skin, especially on the upper eyelid, makes the eyelid even heavier, causing a tired look. Many people have experienced that this hiding of hair loss becomes more intense when they wake up in the morning and stand in front of the mirror.
So can this situation be fixed? Who can undergo upper eyelid loss? How should evaluation be done? Is there actually an eyelid care service? Let’s answer this question.
First of all, the mirror that comes with tired care features should be examined. A possible hidden blepharoptosis should be avoided by performing a single examination by closing both eyelids together and the other. Otherwise, undesirable situations such as asymmetrical eye opening may occur after surgery. However, eye movements and visual field examination should not be forgotten.
The main or additional problem in the majority of young people suffering from droopy eyelids is actually drooping eyebrows. If the solution of the mirror is only to increase the eyebrows a little and the accumulation in the rehearsal eyes can be seen clearly and easily, a blepharoplasty surgery performed without this flat position will not be our problem.
Periorbital surgery, that is, eye surgeries, is considered as a whole. The main reason for a tired look and droopy eyelids, especially at a young age, is the low placement of the eyebrow structure. These problems can be solved with eyebrow lift surgeries. Depending on the location of the eyebrow, simple eyebrow lifting or temple stretching-temporal lift operations can be performed, which only support people on the outer parts of the eyebrow, or in cases where the entire eyebrow is located low, the eyebrows can be lifted completely and vision can be provided with endoscopic forehead lift surgeries.

In older patients, excess skin and herniation of fat pads around the eyes may be the main problems. In addition to removing the required amount of excess skin, muscle and fat tissue from the upper lid in patients in this age group, combinations with eyebrow lifting options provide more effective results if necessary.

How is upper eyelid aesthetics performed?
It is a surgery that can be performed under local anesthesia. It takes 45-60 minutes. Before starting the surgery, drawings are made according to the necessary measurements while the patient is in a sitting position with his eyes open and closed. And according to these measurements, the necessary tissues are removed. Then, the incision hidden in the upper eyelid fold is stitched in the form of a single line. Necessary strips are applied and the operation is terminated. After 1 week, the stitches are removed and scar creams are used. Main scar healing is completed in 1 year. During this process, silicone-based scar prevention creams are applied for 3-6 months, in addition, the use of sunscreen with at least 30 SPF for 1 year is essential for a good scar quality. An upper blepharoplasty scar that is treated in accordance with this protocol heals imperceptibly. In terms of location, the scar is positioned so that it remains in the fold when the eye is open and parallel to the crow’s feet lines in the external extension. This does not disrupt the aesthetic perception.
In summary, in every case of a tired look complaint, a meticulous examination should be performed, the factor causing this problem should be correctly identified and surgical planning should be made accordingly. Oculoplastic surgery is a surgical discipline performed and mastered by the Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery specialty.
