Filling
Fillers are mostly made of hyaluronic acid and have a dissolvable structure. There are also some fillers that are made of calcium hydroxylapatite and are permanent.
Where are fillers preferred? Due to the decrease in subcutaneous fat tissue and gravitational displacement associated with advancing age, deepening lines and wrinkles, and volume loss can be seen on the skin in some areas. Procedures can be performed on the relevant areas according to the goal. For example, cheek fillers, temple fillers, marionette fillers, jawline fillers, nasolabial fillers, under-eye light fillers, upper eyelid fillers, etc. In addition, they are frequently performed to change the existing appearance. Lip fillers, nose fillers, and jawline fillers are the main ones.
The permanence of hyaluronic acid fillers is limited. They usually last no more than a year. However, some areas are exceptions. For example, a filler applied to the tip of the nose does not completely disappear. Or, the filler from the previous session can be noticeable in repeated lip filler procedures.
In our clinical practice, filler procedures, especially lip fillers, occupy a large place.
It is very important to be within the safe limit when performing filler applications. These procedures should be performed by plastic surgeons or dermatologists. Otherwise, the likelihood of encountering irreversible complications, including permanent blindness, increases. We prefer a cannula with a blunt end rather than a needle as an injection tool. This way, vascular injuries, embolisms, swelling, and bruising can be avoided. We use local anesthetic cream before the application and, if necessary, perform nerve blocks to minimize pain and sensitivity. Comfort during the procedure is a must for both the patient and the physician.
One of the characteristics of hyaluronic acid fillers is that they retain water. It is expected that there will be a greater appearance than its current volume within the first week after the procedure. Generally, they reach their final volume after the first week.
